Semester 1 2020

The JPL begins 2020 with an update of the Technological and Applied Studies (TAS) courses in Years 7 – 12 as well as a look at the concepts of uncertainty, error and confidence in data that are now part of the new Stage 6 Science syllabuses. The edition delves into how to encourage Stage 6 Advanced English students to be confident in their abilities as writers. The essential role of the Teacher – Librarian and the school library in low SES schools is reasserted and an explanation is given of the benefits of the Quality Teaching Rounds. We look at rural education and some “tips and tricks” for teachers who “go bush” to teach. Important reading for all teachers includes Kathy Deacon’s article on collaborative school leadership as well as Peter Johnson’s explanation of the issues associated with conflicts of interest.
