Aarti Nand discusses teaching Stage 6 Legal Studies and what teachers, can do to encourage students to choose this important subject and to help them gain success within it.
I personally think Legal Studies is a really rewarding subject for students to be choosing – and I encourage them, if they’re passionate about those pressing issues in our community, in our country and even in the world and in politics, then they need to think about doing [Legal Studies] as a subject, because, I guess, at the end of the day, we want them leaving becoming really well – educated, active citizens of our community…
In Legal Studies, the textbook is out of date very quickly so it is not something that I would suggest sticking to very closely – for beginning teachers or any teachers in general, including myself.
I would really suggest teachers starting out pick [for their Options] what they’re confident in and what they have the experience and knowledge in – and then, also, what they’re interested in learning about – because that extra reading and following news media has to be something you’re passionate about ,so it’s not a chore and you really are watching out of interest anyway.
